Part of a former power station will be blown up in Dartford next Saturday night.

A boiler house and turbine hall will be demolished at the Littlebrook Power Station.

The demolition, at 11pm, will coincide with a planned routine closed of the QE2 Bridge at the Dartford Crossing.

The controlled demolition will bring down the 'B' station boiler house and turbine hall as the same time the bridge is closed for maintenance, so as to not distract drivers.

The structure consists of a structural steel frame with a concrete skin.

Littlebrook Power Station in Manor Way, Dartford, closed in 2015.

Calum Cameron, from Brown & Mason Limited, the Dartford-based demolition contractor carrying out the work said there will be an exclusion zone in place before and after the explosion.

Mr Cameron, added: "To protect everyone on site and in the local area, an exclusion zone will be in place before, during and immediately after the explosion.

"The exclusion zone is well within the power station boundary fence and there will be no public access to the area or impact on the local road network."

The demolition will not be visible from outside the station boundary.

Mr Cameron added: "Demolition of this section of the power station is considered to be low impact. Although the explosion and collapse may be heard off site, any noise will be over very quickly."

The other main structures are scheduled to be blown up later this year and next year and it is expected the site will be completely demolished by 2020.
