Primary school staff exceeded their own expectation of raising £1,000 for charity by raising more than 13 times the target.

Pupils, parents and staff from Wentworth Primary School, Wentworth Drive, Dartford, managed to raise £13,611 for the Cancer Research UK charity.

In the summer, the school took part in their own race for life, to race money for the charity, by holding a sponsored walk on the school grounds.

The cheque was presented to members of the Dartford local committee Cancer Research team by head teacher Paul Langridge and children from Year 6 in November.

Mr Langridge said: “As a school we support a range of charities throughout the year.

“However, I was completely blown away by the whole of the Wentworth community in supporting our ‘Race of Life’ back in June. Initially hoping to raise £1,000, I was staggered by the final figure.

“This is a monumental effort from a school of just 560 children.”
