They used a number of tactics to fight the blaze, working in punishing conditions to calm the flames and get the fire under control.

The cause of the incident is not known and there were no reported injuries.

Six fire engines were deployed to the Green Street Green Road site at about 2.30pm.

Having extinguished the blaze - which destroyed 200 tonnes of recycling - a crew of firefighters remained overnight to ensure the fire did not reignite.

Water jets, compressed air foam system, a height vehicle with wetting agent, and fire breaks were among the tactics and equipment used to calm the flames and smoke.
