Revised plans to build on a disused garden nursery have been submitted to reduce the number of houses.

Tonbridge-based developer Canham Homes applied to construct 18 properties with 41 parking spaces at the former Oast House Nursery in Ash Road, Ash, last year.

It wanted to clear the site to create four two-bedroom and 13 three-bedroom houses and an additional dwelling with four or more bedrooms.

However, in July, Sevenoaks council dismissed the proposals at its planning committee as it was deemed they would cause “substantial harm to the openness” of the area.

As the site lies within the green belt there are strict policies and it was thought the scheme would be “inappropriate”.

Five months on, a revised application has been submitted with two fewer houses – bringing the total to 16 – and the height of the buildings has been reduced to address the concerns raised while making “optimum use of a brownfield site”.

The developers added the proposals have been designed so there is no “overlooking or overshadowing” and will help address the home shortage in the area with more than £13,500 contributed towards affordable housing.

Each home will have its own garden, there will be 41 parking spaces and the existing Oast House will stay, if the plans are approved.

The planning statement added: “We firmly consider that the public benefits of the proposal outweigh any limited degree of perceived harm.”
