Fun for all the family as Dartford Valley Rugby Club hosts annual community fun day

08:00, 15 April 2016

There was more than just rugby to enjoy at Dartford Valley Rugby Club’s (DVRFC) annual community fun day.

Hundreds turned out at the club’s Leigh Academy home on Sunday, with attractions ranging from carousels and bouncy castles to fairground stalls and a popular barbecue. Live music and a disco were also part of the line-up, together with a bar.

Of course, rugby itself was still a major focus, with the youth, ladies’, wheelchair and men’s sevens team all in action.

Youngsters showed off their skills in the Valley Gauntlet obstacle course, followed by an inter-club tag rugby competition, while the ladies took part in a skills and drills training session.

The DVRFC Vipers wheelchair squad was hard at work in the sports hall after their inaugural spring tour and the day was rounded off with six sides facing off in a men’s sevens tournament.

Essex University and Vigo contested the final, with the students coming out on top to claim the DVRFC trophy.

DVRFC’s Gavin Drummond said: “The club would like to thank all the volunteers on the day, the sponsors, businesses and organisations who supported the club, especially the Mayor of Dartford, who always gives willingly of his time to club events.

“As a club, Dartford Valley are determined to continue to build their club sections and promote the game of rugby across the town of Dartford.”
