Suspected bike thief jumps in River Darent in Dartford to evade police

A suspected thief has been arrested after he jumped into a river in a desperate bid to evade police.

Officers were called to a report a motorbike had been stolen in Dartford yesterday at about 7pm.

After they caught up with the bike, the rider made off and jumped into the River Darent in Mill Pond Road.

But he was arrested and - following a search - police found class A and B drugs.

A 20-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of class A and B drugs with intent to supply.

He has been released under investigation.
