The victim, who had passed his driving test the previous day, pulled over to ask for directions from two teenagers before they allegedly pulled a hammer and knife from their bag and demanded money from him.

In an attempt to spread awareness of the incident the driver's mother took to Facebook to share details of the incident.

She said: "My son passed his driving test yesterday and what should have been a happy day/evening ended in horror when I had a call from police informing me my son had been hit in the face by a hammer.

"I am so angry, what is wrong with people?"

The mother continued, saying her son was lucky to only come home with a black eye.

Police spokesman Chris Herbert said: "Police were called at 8.45pm on Tuesday, November 12 to reports that a man had been hit with an object while in his car on Ash Road, New Ash Green.

"No medical attention was required and nothing was stolen. Officers are investigating."
