There is nothing more tempting than a farm shop selling produce from the nearby fields.
And that’s what you can find at Broadditch Farm shop in New Barn Road, Southfleet.
The farm itself is run by the Harris family – a former Dartford and Gravesham Business Awards finalist – and produces a vast selection of fruit and vegetables on its 500-acre spread.
It is also keen to create areas for wildlife.
There is a 26-strong staff including shop manager Amanda Pay.
There is a myth, she said, that farm shops are dearer. Broadditch is competitive with any other outlet and the food was as fresh as you could get.
The shop sees its staff as part of the family, making it a good place to work.
They often get involved with the community by supplying their tractors as floats for local fairs.
There are events on the farm for the children at Easter such as the bunny hunt.
In addition, there is a summer trail and even a spooky one at Halloween.
Miss Pay said: “We are environmentally friendly as the farmer does not use pesticides on his crops and so we are able to enjoy our biggest event when the farm turns into zombie, monster land.
“At Christmas we have our very own Farmer Christmas who is waiting in his little log cabin to welcome the children.
“We support the EllenorLions Hospice and often have raffles to raise money for the cause.
“We also have tasting weekends where the customers can taste jams, pickles, cakes and cheese – a try before you buy.”
Broadditch Farm is one of the entrants in this year’s Dartford and Gravesham Business Awards, which are supported by the Messenger.
The deadline for entries is July 31. Visit www.dgbawards.co.uk for an entry form.
