A robber who threatened to stab a man before leaving with one roll up cigarette and some coins has been jailed for three years.

James Harris, 25, followed his victim from a petrol station in Princes Road, Dartford, on Friday, March 29 at around 1.30am, before he assaulted him.

Harris, of Olive Road, Dartford, assaulted the man by jumping on his back and threatening to stab him with a knife if he didn't hand over his wallet.

The victim handed over his wallet and Harris made further demands on the victim who then refused to co-operate.

The 25-year-old only managed to leave with a cigarette and loose change.

Harris was arrested the same day after officers recognised him from the victim's description, who explained his attacker had a cut on his hand and blood on his clothes, and was linked to the crime by forensic evidence. He pleaded guilty to the robbery at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, July 24.

Kent Police’s senior investigating officer for the case, Detective Sergeant Mike Champion said: "Thankfully, Harris’s victim was not harmed however violent crime can have lasting effects on people emotionally.

"Harris’s willingness to threaten an innocent member of the public clearly demonstrates he is a dangerous offender. This sentence is therefore entirely justified."
