Fitness fanatics will soon be pounding the treadmill at all times of the day and night as work to build a 24-hour gym in Dartford gets under way.

Construction of the gym above Aldi in the Orchards Shopping Centre began on Monday and is expected to be completed in November.

The work is the last phase of the development to replace the former Waitrose store following Aldi’s opening in June.

The Gym Group – one of the UK’s fastest growing health and fitness chains – has been confirmed as the operator of the gym, which will remain open for 24 hours.

General manager Paula Millen said: “I’m originally from Kent and have worked in the county for over six years.

“Having previously worked as the general manager of The Gym Ashford, I’m really excited about supporting people from the local community in Dartford overcome barriers to fitness and helping them reach their fitness goals.

“We offer flexible membership terms that allow members to come and go as they please. We want to attract a whole new group of local people to The Gym.

“For example, those on low incomes, students, retired people and shift workers as well those who value the 24-hour opening.”

The gym is expected to create up to 14 jobs, including 12 personal trainers. Membership prices start as low as £12.99 a month with no commitment to a 12-month contract.

Orchards Shopping Centre manager Debbie Carey added: “Works have recently commenced and we are looking forward to a November opening.”
