Tony Burman felt Dartford deserved something against Wrexham on the opening day of the season.

Two goals from Wes York, either side of a Tom Bradbrook strike, earned the Red Dragons a 2-1 win at Princes Park in the Vanarama Conference.

But the Darts boss was upbeat about his side's performance afterwards.

Burman said: "I don’t think we deserved to lose the game. I’m disappointed in respect of the result but I’m pleased with what I saw out there. There were a lot of positives for us.

"I was disappointed we came in 1-0 down at half-time because I thought we did OK in the first half. We felt that we needed to up the tempo a little bit in the second half – we felt that was all that was missing, and a goal – but we had some half-chances and we played some decent football.

"At half-time, we said about trying to up the tempo a little bit, to get into the next gear, and we might cause them a few problems. I think we did that and we scored a decent goal.

"I felt that we should have gone on from there, but we didn’t take that opportunity. It was in that spell that we lacked a little bit of concentration - we gave the ball away too much instead of keeping hold of the ball, which we’d done throughout the game."

Bradbrook, who rejoined Dartford from Leatherhead in the summer, played well on his second debut.

His goal, a header from a Lee Noble corner, came after he'd spurned a great chance in the first half - shooting wastefully wide with only the keeper to beat.

Burman said: "It’s one of them. He’s done great to beat the centre-half and he needs to put it in the other corner, which we know, and on another day, that’ll happen."

On Tuesday, the Darts are away to Woking, who won 3-1 at Alfreton on Saturday.
