Dartford came from behind to beat Chatham Town in the derby match at Princes Park on Monday.

Jamie Yila put Chatham ahead and only a good save from keeper Matt Kerbey denied him a second at the end of the opening half. Sam Odaudu struck well to level it up shortly after the restart and Jones’ late goal turned it around. Eddie Dsane scored a stoppage-time penalty to seal the victory for Ady Pennock’s side.

This was the first league meeting between the sides in 17 years, meeting for the Bank Holiday fixture at Princes Park.

Dartford were unchanged from the team which had beaten Carshalton Athletic 1-0 on the Saturday.

Chats were looking to build on back-to-back wins in the league, defeating Dulwich Hamlet 3-1 just two days earlier.

The visitors looked to make an early impact, with the pace of Khale Da Costa, but Dartford posed a threat from set-pieces with a flurry of early chances to put the ball in the box from around the area.

Christian Tyler-Law went close with a deflected effort and Jack Evans needed to block shots from Olly Box and Denzelle Olopade.

Sam Sene-Richardson was picked to start for Chatham in behind striker Brad Sach and he almost put the front-man in on goal with a delightful ball over the defender, only for the linesman’s flag to be raised.

Chatham broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute. Sach flicked the ball on for Yila to chase and he stayed on his feet in the box before picking his spot low beyond the keeper into the far corner.

Yila could have had a second shortly before the break when Sene-Richardson played him in but this time Kerbey saved well with a low effort.

It was one apiece early in the second half, just three minutes after the restart. Referee Will Briers ignored calls for handball against Dartford and when the ball broke for left-back Odaudu, he found the bottom corner with a sweet strike from 25 yards.

The impressive Sene-Richardson was denied by Darts keeper Kerbey with an hour gone, saving with his feet at his near post. It was an attack that came from substitute Kofi Anokye Boadi after he won possession inside the Dartford half.

Jeremiah Pinder put one shot into the Chatham keeper’s arms and fired another over the bar.

The match definitely had a derby feel to it, with plenty of commitment from both sides, keeping the officials on their toes. Chats manager Kevin Hake was one of several cautions issued for dissent.

Dartford went ahead in the 84th minute through Jones, firing into the roof of the net after they had been unable to clear their lines.

Yila headed over from a corner for Chats late on but the visitors were unable to get themselves back into the match. Max Statham came even closer to an equaliser in stoppage-time with a shot that narrowly went wide.

Dsane fired in a penalty for Dartford to make it 3-1 after he had been fouled in the box by Charlie Naylor.
