Dartford let three points slip through their fingers on Tuesday night.

They led Wealdstone 1-0 with 14 minutes remaining but conceded two late goals and crashed to their first league defeat at Princes Park for more than four months.

Tony Burman's men missed the chance to go fourth in National League South ahead of Saturday's trip to promotion rivals Gosport Borough.

A dead leg ruled out Danny Harris but Jack Simmons was passed fit to take his place in Dartford's only change from the 2-0 defeat at Sutton on Saturday.

Wealdstone, who lost 3-0 to Eastbourne at the weekend, made a change in goal with Joe Taylor coming in for Samuel Howes. Their attack was led by 41-year-old Scott McGleish, who was drafted in for fellow veteran Jefferson Louis, while Shaun Lucien took the place of Matt Ball.

The game kicked off in a swirling wind and Dartford were first to threaten when Andy Pugh poked a shot across the face of goal.

At the other end, Elliot Bradbrook got his head to a Stones cross but the ball only travelled as far as Matthew Harriott, whose left-footed volley bounced wide of the far post.

Callum McNaughton then sold Ronnie Vint short with a pass across the face of the penalty area and his central defensive partner did well to make a crunching block tackle as McGleish attempted to steal in.

Dartford might have scored from the counter-attack which followed. Simmons crossed low from the left-hand side and the ball ran for Pugh, whose close-range effort was kept out by Taylor.

Wealdstone lost Thomas Hamblin to a leg injury midway through the first half, their captain stretchered off after lying prone for several minutes.

That break in play killed what little atmosphere there was inside the ground, although Simmons lifted the home fans with a piece of positive play moments later. He cut in from the left, dribbled towards goal and shot against a Stones defender with his right foot.

Dartford's next chance came from the same flank. Left-back Mark Onyemah beat two Wealdstone players and his low cross ran all the way through the six-yard box to Hayes, whose shot was charged down.

It was all Dartford now and Hayes forced a corner when his shot was spilled round the post by Taylor.

The pair resumed their duel moments later when Taylor mishandled another Hayes strike but recovered brilliantly to keep Pugh's header out when the goal seemed to be gaping. Pugh had done well to trap a long Deren Ibrahim kick in the build-up, bringing Hayes into play with his next touch.

Hayes was being given far too much room by the visitors and the next time he was invited forward, the winger drove a shot over the crossbar.

Ebou Adams turned sharply and drove a left-footed shot narrowly wide before Dartford had the ball in the net in stoppage-time. Pugh followed in to score after Onyemah's powerful shot had been parried by Taylor, although the assistant flagged for offside.

It seemed that referee Anthony da Costa had over-ruled his colleague after a discussion in the corner but in fact he was pointing up field for a Wealdstone free-kick, not to the centre spot.

Dartford's cheers were cut short and the officials were booed off at the break.

But six minutes into the second half, the home side did take the lead. Simmons rode a challenge, spread play wide to Hayes and his delivery from wide on the right was neatly finished by Pugh.

It was almost 2-0 following the restart. Adams played a wonderful crossfield pass to the irrepressible Hayes and Bradbrook met his cross with a header which Taylor did really well to keep out.

The game then went through a lull and Dartford looked comfortable until Scott Davies' long throw was flicked across goal, the ball dropping just wide of the far post.

But a second Darts goal almost arrived when Hayes' cross was cleared only as far as Adams, whose 20-yard strike was heading for the bottom corner until Taylor dived low to push it behind.

Bradbrook did well to turn Hayes' deep cross back through the six-yard box and Pugh looked certain to make it 2-0 but he missed his kick in front of an open goal.

And that missed opportunity was punished just a minute later. Dartford got in a terrible mess inside their own penalty area and McGleish found the bottom corner with a classy finish.

Even a draw would have moved Dartford up the league table but they left with nothing after Louis, on from the bench, spun on the edge of the box and rifled the ball past Ibrahim's left hand.
