Dartford FC transfer target is on trial with a League 2 club
06:00, 04 July 2019
The striker Dartford want to sign is on trial with a Football League club.
Joint-managers Jamie Coyle and Adam Flanagan would like to start the new season with four centre-forwards.
They’ve got Andy Pugh, Charlie Sheringham and Darren McQueen signed up so there’s room for one more.
Coyle said: “He’s currently on trial at a League 2 club.
“It’s not a definite ‘no’ so we’re in contact with him and his agent and if it doesn’t work out there, he’s given his word that we’ll be the club he speaks to with regard to signing for this season.
“We’re happy with what we’ve got but it would be nice to have a bit more competition in the final third.
“He’s a player we’ve monitored for the last season and have got really good character references from the clubs he’s played for and he’s a very promising young centre-forward.
“He was playing in the National League last year but he’s got an opportunity to go to League 2 and I think he’s got a 10-day trial with the club so we’ll know around July 10 whether or not he’s got a deal.
“If he hasn’t, we’ll be the club he already wants to sign for.”
Dartford will look at two trialist left-backs during Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Sevenoaks Town (3pm).
Mark Onyemah won’t be fit for a while so Darts need someone for the short term at least.
Coyle said: “Mark started his rehab on Monday but he didn’t play many games towards the end of last year.
“We may have to get him some game time because of the lack of minutes and his operation last month.”
Dartford host Ebbsfleet on Tuesday at Princes Park, kick-off 7.45pm.
