Tony Burman was shocked when he realised goalkeeper Jason Brown had been racially abused from the terraces at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

The Dartford manager knew something was wrong when Brown called over the referee and pointed out a supporter behind the goal, but he didn't get the full picture until after the game.

Burman said: "I didn’t know what was going on but I knew something was wrong with Jason. I didn’t realise what had happened until we came off the field. It’s wrong.

"It’s not what you come to football to see or hear. It does shock you. It’s got to be cleaned up and people have got to take more responsibility. It’s not right and it upset Jason, so I just want him to be OK.

"I didn’t know too much what was going on during the game. I thought something had been thrown at him. Jason’s seen the guy and it seems like he’s a familiar face."

Bristol Rovers have promised to hand life bans to the supporter(s) involved.

A statement released by Dartford said: "This matter is in the hands of the local police and Bristol Rovers have been very quick to put out a statement condemning the actions of this/these individual/s.

"We would like to put on record our thanks and appreciation of their support and recognition that this type of behaviour has no place in our game and that they will be taking the strongest possible actions against this/these individual/s."

On the field, Dartford host Macclesfield in the Vanarama Conference on Saturday.

Nathan Collier is back after suspension but Lee Burns (rib), Lee Noble (ankle) and Peter Sweeney (groin) are all injury doubts for the game at Princes Park.

Dartford go into the game 19th, above the relegation zone on goal-difference only.
