Dartford academy striker Ben Francis on his goal in the Kent Senior Cup final win over Charlton Athletic

00:00, 28 April 2016

Academy striker Ben Francis has described the moment he scored Dartford’s winning goal in the Kent Senior Cup final.

The match was level at 1-1 with 16 minutes left when 17-year-old Francis was sent on to make an impact.

And he certainly did that, producing a classy left-footed finish to put the game beyond Charlton after fellow youngster Ronnie Vint had nudged the Darts in front.

Francis said: "To get a goal, it’s a great feeling. I was buzzing to make it 3-1.

"The ball came over the top, Tom Bradbrook took it down, I thought the ref was going to give a foul but he played advantage.

"I took a touch and just put it in the bottom corner.”

He added: "It’s been tough to break in this season.

"I’ve got the likes of Andy Pugh, Tom Bradbrook and George Sykes ahead of me so I’ve got to fight my battle and keep working hard."

Dartford manager Tony Burman has used Francis sparingly, sending him out on loan to Lordswood earlier in the campaign.

The teenager was also invited to train with Millwall alongside club-mate Dajon Golding.

Burman said: "Ben’s been in and around the squad for most of the season and he’s getting to know the banter that goes on.

"He’s contracted to us and we’ve got high hopes for him.

"You don’t always have to be playing but he’s been in and around it and everyone’s pleased for him.

"He’s showed his pace (for the goal) and it’s a great finish. He’s definitely one for the future."
