Dartford manager Steve King believes more goals can take Tyrique Hyde’s game to another level.

The former Colchester midfielder made an immediate impact after returning from his loan spell at Hemel Hempstead last weekend - ironically by scoring twice in a 3-2 National League South win at Hemel.

King knows a goalscoring midfielder like Hyde, who has great athleticism, could prove invaluable in their promotion push.

“I’ve told him that if he scores goals from midfield with his frame and physicality and legs, that he will get noticed higher up,” said King.

“Attacking midfield players who get goals (are sought after), he can get 10 a season, that’s a good benchmark.

“Luke Allen is similar, he’s a few years older than Tyrique and I’ve told him to look at what Luke does, he makes those runs off the back of people and that’s what he needs to add to his game.

“Tyrique got into the box 19 times at Hemel with those third man runs, I set him a target before the game of 10 so that for me was brilliant.”

Hyde impressed during his loan spell at Hemel, helping them turn a slow start to the season around under new boss Mark Jones.

His loan expired last week and it was perfect timing for Darts who were without Jack Jebb and Luke Allen through injury.

“Mark kept me informed of Tyrique’s progress and we felt it was the right time to get him back and give him an opportunity,” said King.

“The loan served its purpose for us. We were flying at the time and he couldn’t get into the side. We felt it was in his best interests to play some games.”

Darts also played Ronnie Vint after recalling him from his loan spell at Dulwich. Injury ruled out Josh Hill but Vint’s return meant a change of formation for the Darts.

Three at the back has not always worked when King has switched formation at Dartford but they looked solid at Hemel despite conceding twice.

“Ronnie has done ever so well for Dulwich and having him back here, there was no point putting him on the bench,” said King.

“I wanted to play him and we worked on something at training last Thursday and we felt good about it.

“We’ve got the right players to play that way and we looked solid, even though they scored twice. We controlled the game and restricted them.

“We knew that Jernade Meade can go up and down the left and Luke Wanadio is not a right-back but he is energetic and whole-hearted and he has quality in his end product.”

Dartford’s injury list includes Jebb (foot), Jordan Wynter (groin), Hill and Allen. The latter had nine stitches in a knee injury picked up against Oxford City but the good news is there was no ligament damage and he could be back within four to six weeks.

It means King has limited options for Dartford’s FA Trophy second round trip to Bath this Saturday.

They’ve already won at Bath in the opening weeks of the league campaign but repeating that feat will be no easy task.

“We’re down to the bare bones,” said King. “We can just about fill the bench on Saturday.

“It’s the non-league FA Cup so we’ll take it seriously.

“It’s a tough place to go, they won at the weekend as well so they’ll get a bit of confidence from that. Jerry Gill sets his team up well and it wasn’t a forgone conclusion when we won there. They were the better team in one half, we were the better team in the other half and we took our chances.”
