Welling were knocked out of the FA Trophy after a poor second-half showing at Havant on Saturday.
The Wings went out to lower-league Havant, who themselves sit bottom of Vanarama National League South after Basingstoke won in league action.
Welling lost direction after the break after a first-half when they were well in the game.
A change of formation, poor balls forward and a distinct lack of quality all contributed to their downfall.
Havant went ahead after 11 minutes. Skipper Ricky Wellard failed to mark his man at a free-kick and Josh Hill had the freedom of the penalty area to slot home.
Welling, who always caused the hosts problems when going in behind them, levelled on 18 minutes.
Ben Jefford's excellent cross fell to Reece Harris and he drilled home from inside the penalty area for his third goal of the season.
Welling fielded debutant Marek Rodak, on loan from Fulham, in goal and he produced a double save just after the half-hour to deny James Hayter and Shamir Mullings.
After the break, Xavier Vidal had a long-range attempt saved and Harry Lee's drive was beaten away. That apart, Welling offered little threat.
Havant failed to create an opening of their own until they took the lead on 64 minutes.
A left-wing cross by substitute Ben Swallow just moments after he came on, was headed in from close range by Mullings.
It was a deserved goal for the frontman, his first of the campaign, as he held the ball up well and his pace caused Welling plenty of problems.
Welling introduced Jake Green for his debut but despite switching to 4-4-2 they failed to get the ball to their widemen and time quickly ran out on their FA Trophy dream.
The sand-covered Westleigh Park pitch hardly contributed to a spectacle but Welling had only themselves to blame for their mediocre second-half showing.
Welling: Rodak, Williams (Cumberbatch 84mins), Osborne, Chambers, Jefford, Wellard (Green 67mins), Lee, Vidal, Daniel, Harris, Porter (Bakare 62mins). Subs not used: Fagan, McEntegart.
