Dartford boss Steve King was delighted to collect his first piece of silverware at the club.

King took over at Princes Park in October 2019 and watched his team win the delayed 2019/20 Kent Senior Cup final with a 6-1 defeat of Whitstable on Wednesday night.

"It was a good workout," reflected King. "I said if we get to the final we want to win it and winning any trophy is good.

"It's the first trophy since I've been here and it was fully deserved.

"I watched Whitstable on youtube and got some information from teams they've played, what shape they will play and what they do, as I always do no matter what the level. It's important to show utmost respect no matter who you play.

"The football we played in first half was unbelievable, as good as anything. Obviously people will say they're two levels below us and it should be, but the football was breathtaking.

"In the second half I think we took our foot off the gas, they came into the game and had a right go, scored a wonderful free-kick and can say it was 1-1 in the second half so fair play to them.

"They could have folded and the score could have been massive but they deservedly got a goal.

"We need to sort out finishing out second half as we could have had five or six and we didn't take it."

Man-of-the-match was Dartford striker Jake Robinson, who has returned to the squad in the past fortnight having not started a game since the beginning of September through injury.

The predatory poacher helped himself to a hat-trick and King knows he brings something different to his attack.

"The good thing about Jake is that he will find the net," added the Darts manager. "He stands between the posts and we don't really have anyone else like him, Ade scores a lot of goals but they're all different goals.

"Jake is a little poacher and he gets in the right place at the right time. He had two disallowed, the one in the second half was onside for me.

"He's in the right place at the right time and we've missed someone like that. I'm so happy to have him back."
