Jay May returns to Princes Park on Saturday for the first time since leaving Dartford more than five years ago.

The striker had three spells with the Darts but he’s hoping to score against them for Maidstone United.

Initially brought to the club by Tommy Sampson as a 16-year-old during the 2003-04 season, May was later signed twice by Tony Burman and his goals helped Dartford to the Ryman League Division 1 North title in 2008.

The 29-year-old still lives in Dartford and can’t wait for Saturday’s derby clash.

May said: "This will be the first time I’ve gone back since I left.

"I had some good years at Dartford and it’s my home town club. I had a good year when we won the league. It was me and Brendon Cass up top and I scored a few goals (18)."

May played for Dartford against Maidstone when both clubs were in the Ryman Premier but Saturday’s game is being played one division higher.

He said: "Dartford did it a few years earlier than Maidstone but Maidstone have done so well and they’re such a big club. I hope Dartford can continue what they’re doing.”

May has some bad news for Darts fans, though.

He said: "I’ve gone back to a few of my old clubs and scored.

"Last year I went back to Billericay and scored two and I’ve scored against Tonbridge as well."

May is one of five ex-Darts in the Maidstone squad alongside Jamie Coyle, James Rogers, Adam Birchall and Callum Driver.
