Danny Mills felt his luck change after scoring his first home goal for Dartford.

The on-loan Ebbsfleet striker has been with the Darts since December but hadn't found the back of the net in six attempts at Princes Park before Saturday's game against Truro.

Mills, though, was celebrating two minutes into the second haf when his cross from the left went all the way in to put Dartford 3-0 up. They went on to win the game 4-1.

"It was brilliant," Mills said. "I had a one-on-one chance in the first half (which the keeper saved) so it was nice to see the ball go in the back of the net.

"I've been trying to work hard and do the basics right and luckily, it's gone in the back of the net. It was brilliant on a personal note to get the goal."

It was Mills' second in as many games - but just his third in 15 appearances for Dartford.

He said: "From being used to scoring goals consistently, it's certainly been a big challenge to go into games and maybe not score as many goals as I would have liked but I've stripped it back and gone back to the basics.

"I believe in my ability. I believe I can go and score goals and I'd like to think, over the last couple of games, I've shown I can be a real threat and put it in the back of the net.

"But sometimes with football it's a little bit of luck. A couple of weeks ago, the goal I scored today might have gone wide, it might have hit the post, it might have gone over. Sometimes, as a forward, you just need that little bit of luck, that rub of the green, and in the last couple of games it's come.

"It's certainly given me a lot of confidence now going into the next game. If selected by the manager, I'm going to keep trying to get in those goalscoring positions and keep trying to score goals for the team.

"That's why, in football, you can't get too excited and have your head in the clouds when things are going well and equally you can't get too low when things aren't going so well because, in seconds, it can all change for you."

Mills operated wide on the left against Truro, linking well with full-back Mark Onyemah and central striker Alfie Pavey as Darts put one of their promotion rivals to the sword.

He said: "I played there last week (when Dartford won 2-1 at Wealdstone) and this week and so far, so good. I've enjoyed playing on that side with Mark.

"It's different. I haven't played out wide for a very long time and for me, it was about doing the basics; when I get the ball, either driving forward or setting a midfielder or setting Mark and just keeping things simple.

"Today I managed to get a lot of joy and if the manager continues to play that way, if he wants me to play out there, I'll do the best job I can for the team."

Dartford were in control against Truro from the moment Andy Pugh volleyed them into an early lead.

"It was convincing win," Mills said. "We've come out in some very tough conditions and taken the game to them.

"For the first time in a couple of weeks, we've really been on the front foot and more importantly, we've taken our chances at key times - especially straight after half-time. To get two goals in quick succession killed the game off.

"In the end, it was an enjoyable afternoon for us. You could see everyone out there smiling and that's what you want when you play football.

"It was an unbelievable strike from Pughy. We knew the first half was going to be difficult and said we just needed to stay in the game because the second half would probably open up a bit more for us and to come in at 1-0 was brilliant for us.

"We knew if we could take the game to them in the second half, we could go on and score two or three goals and luckily we did early doors.

"You never expect to score so quickly. After Browny's goal, I looked at the clock and it said 46 so I couldn't believe it. After that, you think 'maybe we can go on and score three, four or five goals here.'"
