Addicks boss Bob Peeters blamed injury problems for his side being dumped out of the third round of the FA Cup by Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, writes Josh Fordham.

A Chris Taylor brace either side of Johan Gudmundsson’s wonderful free-kick was enough to take Rovers through in a game interrupted by floodlight problems in the first half.

Peeters said: “We only had 13 players available, you see our bench was the Under-21 bench. The players are getting tired. We changed Gudmundsson because he was struggling with his calf, George Tucadean because he was struggling with his groin and Simon Church with his hamstring.

“The first cross into the box was a goal for them. Then we started to play better and we had some shots blocked but from the moment the lights went off I think we were the better team.

“I think the second goal we gave away too easily. You lose Yoni Buyens with the second yellow as well and you are down to 10 men.”

Peeters hopes to have more options for Saturday's home game against Brighton, including former Celtic striker Tony Watt who will likely be signed from Standard Liege this week.

“Hopefully we will sign a striker this week, it’s all about details but Tony Watt will come to Charlton and will be one of the guys available.

“We rested Chris Solly’s knee because we don’t want to lose him. Igor Vetokele will hopefully be back on Saturday. Rhoys Wiggins is coming back, he is going to train with us.

“Stephen Henderson will have an operation, they are going to look at his shoulder and then we will see what the damage is. Worst case scenario is we lose him for the season and best case he will be out for a few weeks.”

Peeters did play down Charlton’s further possibility of adding to the squad this transfer window following the recent dip in form.

He said: “At this moment the only player we are going to sign is Watt and we are still looking but the transfer window is very long. You need approval of the chairman as well - if he doesn’t want to bring players in you need to cope with that as a manager.”
