One of Crayford Stadium’s most popular events, the annual Retired Greyhound Show, will be held on Sunday, August 31. Gates open at 1.30pm and admission is £2.

Organised by the Friends Of Crayford Retired Greyhounds, there will be something for everyone on what has proved over the years to be a popular and fun afternoon.

The main feature is always the judging of the dogs, initially held in different age groups and all group winners receive a rosette in their category before progressing to the grand all-age final for the best in show award.

The greyhounds are accompanied by their owners and many of Crayford’s trainers will also be available to talk to.

In addition to the dogs, there will be plenty of side attractions which will include greyhound supplies, tombolas, jewellery, bric-a-brac, photography, ask the vet and more.

If you love dogs and greyhounds, in particular, this is your chance to come and talk to those who know all about these animals.

On the racing front, Rosary Beads won the Owners’ Bonus Series for the second time last Saturday night, landing £500 for connections and trainer Julie Luckhurst.

The dog won on merit after an indifferent start, showing tremendous determination to progress from third to take up the lead into the home straight, holding on by just half a length.

While an upgrade to A2 level may prove hard for this likeable dog, wait for his return back down to A3 and he should oblige again.

My one for you to follow this week is newcomer Silverview Hard who has made an immediate impact, winning his first two races in top grade A1 over 380m.

The dog is trained by Steve Gammon and joined his kennel after seven races at Coventry.
While he is relatively lightly raced for his age, he has taken a liking to this track and looks like being among the elite here for some time to come.
