Dartford manager Tony Burman on the 4-1 win over Welling

Dartford boss Tony Burman praised his players after they completed the double over Welling on New Year’s Day.

Darts remain two points clear in National League South after an impressive 4-1 win over Jamie Coyle’s Wings.

“We’re in a good place, we’re improving and I’ve been pleased that I’ve had the same 11 over the last few games,” said Burman.

“When we got the ball down and actually played football going forward, it took us 15 minutes to do it, but we played some really good stuff, especially in the first half.

“We wanted to get the ball wide to Ryan Hayes and Tom Murphy and we gradually got there. When we did we thought we caused them problems.

“I’m delighted with the result and the way the guys conducted themselves.

“We’ve had a tough two weeks, with the FA Trophy game and the festive period. To come through it the way we have has really pleased me.

“To be fair to Welling they caused us one or two problems. I’m disappointed with their goal as it came too easily.

“We went 1-0 up and should then be pressing and taking the game to them but we didn’t – and we did the same thing on Boxing Day.”

Burman also praised the performance of right-back Danny Harris. The defender caused plenty of problems pushing forward and was on the end of a delightful Hayes pass to set up Andy Pugh for Dartford’s decisive second goal.

“Danny went through a little spell where it wasn’t quite right,” said Burman. “He had to have some time off where he couldn’t be here playing-wise.

“Not just against Welling but over the last few games, where the competition for places has come in again, all of a sudden some of his runs are excellent.

“I know there’s a lot of people who think with the way he (links up with) Ryan Hayes is excellent.”
