It was a winning debut on Saturday for Coin And Banter, trained by Barry O’Sullivan.

Clearly, local bookmakers were aware of the dog’s ability as they sent her off as 5/2 favourite in the open race and she won by two-and-a-half lengths.

The dog had previous race experience at Hove, however she had only one win in 18 starts and it would appear the 515m she had been running there may have been a touch too short. Our 540m seems to suit and she looks set to figure in future open races at Crayford. It will be interesting to see how she runs.

My tip last week for the Owners Bonus final, Never Mind Eh, did not run well and finished last. Such is the tipping game, I would be the first to tell you there is no such thing as a cert.

Starting at a very short price of 5/4 favourite, nothing went right for the dog as she was crowded at both the first and third bends and then bumped on the run in.

But on the positive side the winner, Stamford Molly, who I know was purchased for less than £200, romped home to land the £500 winner’s prize.

She is a decent little dog and has always given the impression there was a big win to be had from her. This victory would suggest there is more to come.

Everyone loves the longer races and our marathon races – over 714m – produce exciting finishes.

Nellie Attack, trained by Patsy Cusack, has been catching the eye. She was second in her debut race over this trip, beaten by just over a length by top dog Stunning Harvey, followed by a win a week later.

On Saturday she again won against some decent opposition to enhance her growing reputation.

She has the necessary speed over the first half of the race to put herself in a handy position and looks even stronger during the second half.

It’s early days for the two-year-old, but if she continues to improve she looks a potential entry for the big race next February, the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket.
