My view last week that we could have a future star in Dionysian Doll looks to be on track after the dog romped home at the weekend in grade A3 over 380m.

The dog, trained by Julie Luckhurst, won by over two lengths at odds of 5/4 and the win time, of 23.45secs, is good enough for the dog to go on and have a great chance of winning an A2 race.

The greyhound will not lose her puppy status until next month and, with four wins from seven starts on her book, already she looks to have an excellent future.

Another eye catcher for me has been Hazelwood Razle, trained by Barry O’Sullivan, who at just 20-months-old won her first Open race here on Saturday evening.

Her career record now reads seven wins from 12 races and she had climbed up the grading system here from A8 to A2 before her entry into the weekend’s top-flight Open race.

The local bookmakers had obviously already identified the dog’s potential offering just 9/4 about her chances on Saturday evening – but what a performance.

Once she recorded a sectional time of 12.86secs over the first 160m, she was never going to be caught, finishing in 34.13secs for the full 540m. Take note, this was her first race over this trip having had all of her previous 11 runs over 380m and on this evidence, her future could well be over the longer distance.

The main feature this weekend will be the final of the Owners Bonus race for grade A5 greyhounds over 380m. Winners from the two semi-finals were Old Father Time and Springmount Cher.

They will be joined in the final this weekend by other qualifiers Mullrook Lornie, Fawkham Jacq, Swift Jayne and Silver Eve.

As is usual, I have to be objective when trying to pick a winner in this final but I have always been a fan of Old Father Time who is now a veteran with 117 races on his form book.
