Our Saturday morning meetings have always been popular but there is an added treat this weekend when we have a big final on the morning card.#

The six greyhounds that have made the final of the Owners Bonus Series will be chasing a winner’s prize of £1,000 as opposed to the normal £112 that they receive for winning in their grade of A7.

This is due to the Greyhound Board of Great Britain adding extra money to Owners Bonus races which are staged around the country.

There were three semi-finals last week in which the first two in each went through to the final. These races were won by Gentle Kewell, Pennys Plate and Zenas Bobby in times of 24.06, 23.85 and 23.91sec respectively.

They will be joined by Good Snapper, Miss Spectacular and Corrin Brae.

With just three-and-a-half lengths on the clock between the six dogs’ finishing times, you could probably make a case for any of them to win.

As such, the trap draw may be the deciding factor and in that respect, Pennys Plate, as the only wide-seeded dog, has a plum draw in trap six although she does have a tendency to move towards the middle when she comes out of the traps.

If she does, she may well hamper Good Snapper, who will run from trap five.

Pennys Plate must have an outstanding chance as a previous winner in higher grade A6. She also stays well over longer distances, so there are no doubts about this distance of 380m being a problem.

I like Miss Spectacular, running from trap one, but she does not often go below the 24sec mark when winning so there must be doubts as to if she can triumph.

Corrin Brae is in trap two but prefers trap one and seems more suited to longer distances. In addition, can she beat trap one to the bend?

Gentle Kewell has never run from trap four in his 40 career races, so he is hard to assess from this trap but I can see him leading Zenas Bobby, in trap three and he has the times to win.

Good Snapper, from trap five, has not been in top form lately but has run as high a grade as A4 and is also occupying a trap that he has never had before – his first issue will be avoiding a bump from Pennys Plate.

This is a difficult call but I go with Pennys Plate to win.
