It is certainly a busy time at Crayford, with a few events outside of our normal racing schedule.

On Sunday, August 31 the Friends of Crayford Retired Greyhounds will be holding their annual retired greyhound show where the public get the chance to meet many of our ex-racers at close quarters.

This is a fun day with the greyhounds going into age groups for judging and the winners progressing to the grand final.

There will also be greyhound supply stalls, tombolas, bric-a-brac, photography and ask-the-vet stands. Gates open at 1.30pm, with admission £2.

Many retired racers will be here for the evening race meeting on Saturday, September 27 for a special parade.

The parade was led last year by Newlawn Sweep, who holds the record for our all-time number of races run – a title which I doubt he will ever lose. The dog will hopefully make another appearance this year.

If your interest is in racing, a greyhound auction will be held here on Sunday, September 7 with a sale of Irish greyhounds. Trials will start at 11am with the auction beginning at 1.30pm. These sales have produced many decent winners, so if you fancy getting into greyhound ownership, this is for you.

The performance of the week came from Tinas Lill last Thursday. The Arun Green-trained dog romped home by 11 lengths in her A7 race over 380m.

While she put in a near-perfect run leading all the way this was an exceptional time for a dog at this level. To put things into perspective, on the same card the winner of the top grade A1 race could only manage 23.61sec while Tinas Lill romped home in 23.35.

In theory, she will now only be upgraded by one level to an A6 race but that time shows that she could, if repeated, win at all levels up to and including an A1 race.

A rare feat indeed but you can expect her to go on from this win.
