Crayford-trained dogs had a great night last Saturday in the big open races, landing the John Davidson and Colin Wilson Memorial Trophy and the JB Riney MBE Kent Champion Hurdle.

Fernhill Fury, trained by Paul Tompsett, won the memorial race and £1,250 when leading from trap to line over 540m in 33.91sec to beat Romford-trained Bubbly Rosie by a length.

Fury is arguably one of the most difficult dogs to get past when leading from the traps and, despite being close enough to challenge throughout, the runner-up could not get level with him.

He came into this race in a rich vein of form having been in the first two in his previous six, so his 2-1 favourite starting price was fully justified.

In this sport, form lines cannot be ignored and Lollylips, trained by Julie Luckhurst, proved the point when winning the JB Riney MBE Kent Champion Hurdle by three lengths.

Regular visitor Soviet Military, trained by Ricky Holloway at Wimbledon, generally wins for fun on his visits to Crayford but I have to say I found his starting price of 2/5 odds-on favourite surprisingly short given that Lollylips had finished third at Sittingbourne in mid- October in the Greyhound Grand National final.

Clearly Lollylips came into this race in tip-top form and never looked in danger of being beaten once taking up the lead around the first bend. His odds of 5-2 looked generous.

Track star Pony Bride, featured here on several occasions, made it a
hat-trick of home wins in the JB Riney MBE Marathon over our furthest distance of 874m and romped home as even-money favourite.

They are three of our best greyhounds and had you backed them in a treble, their short individual odds would have given you a 22-1 return – an amazing price.

While the aforementioned are all established stars, always watch out for those new dogs with real potential.

My dog for you to follow is Affane Soldier, who has won his last two races here having finished second in his debut race.

Early days but he is already in grade A2 and, while he may need a couple of attempts to win at this level, I am confident he will continue his winning streak.
