I’m hoping it will be third time lucky for newcomer Coolagoona Crash after a narrow defeat last week.

His record here is two races, two second-place finishes but there is every reason to expect him to go one better now he seems to be getting to grips with the track.

His Irish form of nine competitive races at Limerick produced two wins and four runner-up finishes, so he knows what it takes.

All of those races were over 480m, so our 380m could be proving to be a shade on the short side for him and notably his form lines on his two races here show him running on strongly on both occasions.

If you take into account that he has not trapped out quickly but nonetheless improved from last place to be beaten by just under one length, then in my books, you definitely have a potential winner.

Newcomer Newdown King has won three consecutive races and now finds himself in top grade A1 over 380m.

I have often stated new dogs need a few races to learn how to run the track and this is the case with him.

After his first two races in grade A4, in which he finished third on both occasions, he was dropped a grade and duly won that A5 race by a big margin of just under eight lengths.

Since then, he has gone from strength to strength winning at both A3 and A2 levels.

His recent win times will now put him in with a big chance of winning the forthcoming A1 race among the elite.
