Last week’s tutorial produced two winners in Sharons Delight and Gosputnicgo who won at odds of 2-1 and 5-1 respectively.

Both dogs will now incur an upgrading as a result of their victories so, as outlined last week, wait now for them to drop back down a grade before backing the pair again.

Sometimes you can look at a greyhound and instinctively know that they are going to be natural winners. In mid-March, I took a trophy presentation photo of Ashburn Pink after she had won her debut race here for trainer Paul Tompsett.

She is a daughter of Big Daddy Cool who was whelped in July 2012 so she will not lose her puppy status until July.

It is unusual for dogs of her age to run over 540m here with trainers preferring to start them over 380m. However, she seems to be the exception to the rule having now won her first three races over the longer distance.

She is heading for the top having won in grades S5, S4 and S3 and has bags of time on her side as she could race up to the age of five. She looks set to be a force to reckoned with here.

Her full litter sister Any Number is also racing here and won her second career race, so keep an eye on her too. Racegoers seem to love the longer races and at Crayford, our normal marathon distance is 714m.

My theory over these extended distances is that if you are good enough to win, then you have plenty of time to do it in. Saturday evening’s card featured a top grade E1 race over this trip which was won in impressive fashion by Nellie Attack, trained by Patsy Cusack.

This was only her second career race over 714m and she finished a creditable second in her first race a week earlier when beaten by in-form Stunning Harvey. So on the evidence so far, she looks to have a good career ahead of her.

I am becoming a bit of a fan of High St Kingo who started his career here in late November after joining Barry O’Sullivan’s kennels.

The dog had previously been racing in top grade races at Kilkenny in Ireland and has taken no time here in reaching our top grades over both 380m and 540m. He has won at odds of 5-1 and 8-1 already so he could well be a good value dog.
