Dartford are not going to buy their way out of relegation trouble in the January transfer window.

The club’s income streams have been hit by reduced crowds and Tuesday’s FA Trophy exit at Forest Green means the Darts have picked up just £12,500 in prize money from cup competitions this season.

Recent results have left Dartford fighting a relegation battle in Skrill Premier but the club’s finance director, Jason Outram, insists they won’t spend beyond their means in a bid to stay up.

Writing in the matchday programme, he said: "The season has not started how we planned, either on the pitch or with the finances.

"We have a finite budget within which we must operate. Having made commitments at the beginning of the season we cannot afford to spend our way out of a perceived problem.

"As a board we are always actively looking at ways of increasing the funds available for the players’ budget by improving income and cutting costs, but in difficult economic times this is not as easy as one would hope.

"I normally review the budget prior to Christmas. This year is no different, however – as with most households – the budgets are tighter than in past years and the room to manoeuvre is small."
