Dartford co-chairman Dave Skinner, one of the key men behind the club’s rebirth, has passed away.

It’s no exaggeration that Dartford would not exist in its current guise had it not been for Dave’s leadership in the early 1990s and beyond.

A statement from Dartford Football Club said: “We are deeply saddened to inform you that Co-Chairman, Dave Skinner, passed away earlier today after a long illness. He was 73.

“Dave had supported Dartford since the late 1950’s. He became Chairman of Supporters Association in 1988 and was fundamental in the rescuing and reforming of the club in 1992, when he became Chairman.

“The club wouldn’t be here now without his hard work and guidance over the last 32 years.

“He was a big supporter of all levels of the club, from the youth teams we set up, years before Princes Park, to our current Academy.

“We send our sincere condolences to his brother, Fred. Funeral arrangements will be advised in due course.”

Dartford Football Club Supporters’ Association said: “The worst news. We will all miss Dave incredibly. He was, simple put, Mr Dartford.”

DFCSA secretary Gary Clark added: “Known Dave for 30-plus years, travelled with him for various weekends away and spent the whole of COVID football locked away in the control room with him.

“The Club really will not be the same without him. The term Mr Dartford really was coined for him. I will miss him terribly.”

Dartford are due to host Hemel Hempstead in National League South this Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
