Welling's FA Trophy campaign came to an end at the last 16 stage against National League leaders Lincoln on Saturday.

The visitors made seven changes from their midweek league win but still had more than enough to comfortably see of a Wings side who failed to play anything near their best.

Welling also played a part in their own downfall, making two crucial errors for the first two Lincoln goals they conceded.

Home captain Sean Francis passed a pre-match fitness test but he was at fault as early as the eighth minute when his weak backpass presented Dayle Southwell with a clear run on goal and the Lincoln striker slid his shot beyond keeper Chris Lewington.

The Wings keeper was in action on 17 minutes, denying Josh Ginnelly after the wideman had beaten Francis for pace.

Welling threatened briefly but Sean Long's block denied Adam Coombes and Pierre Joseph-Dubois headed wide from distance.

Lincoln deserved their lead at the break and they quickly put the game beyond Welling early in the second half.

Sam Hatton was caught in possession in midfield for Welling and Lincoln were incisive as they broke forward and Joe Ward fired beyond Lewington on 49 minutes.

Two minutes later, Ward made it 3-0 with another low finish after a sweeping Lincoln move that carved the Welling defence open.

Welling pulled one back just before the hour when Danny Waldren headed in Hatton's free-kick.

It could have been exciting had Coombes' free-kick not found the Lincoln wall but chances were few and far between for Welling.

Infact they were grateful to the impressive Lewington who continued to produce some excellent saves to prevent Lincoln running riot.
