Dartford boss Steve King has insisted his team are not ready for the play-offs.

The Darts moved to within two points of the top seven in National League South after their Boxing Day win at Welling.

But, having only managed back-to-back league wins once since King took charge in October, the Darts manager won’t be getting carried away any time soon.

“I don’t think we’re ready yet,” said King.

“The minute we win two, three, four games (in a row) then I’ll think we’ve got a bit of consistency but at the moment we haven’t got that.

“It was a nice victory. Obviously, it was against my old club and I had a really good time here. I don’t wish anything bad on Welling because the fans were magnificent to me when I was there but it’s a new chapter for me and I’m at a new club now.

“You want to win football matches and to win a local derby 3-0 in a convincing manner is testament to the side.”

Dartford reverted back to a three-man central midfield, and there’s no denying that King’s current squad seem more comfortable with that system.

“The majority of the time we played that system very well,” said King. “There’s more security there and we’re harder to come through.

“We looked solid. They got in a few times which they are going to do because they’ve got good players. But we found a way which we felt we could beat them and I felt that pace in behind them was going to hurt them.

“We moved the ball, we’re moving it 10-15 passes now and that’s something we’re trying to install, to be comfortable on the ball.

“We saw that in abundance and Welling got frustrated by it and gave a few fouls away.”

Dartford are in action at home to Tonbridge on Saturday. Steve McKimm’s side are better than their lowly league position suggests and had a day off on Boxing Day after their home clash with Maidstone was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

King replied: “What does that mean? Are they going to be fitter, stronger faster? Maybe.

“We want to back up this win and we’ve not been able to do that since I’ve been here.”
