Summer signing Paul Lorraine has explained why he had to leave Dartford this week.

The 30-year-old joined the Darts at the start of June but walked away from Princes Park following the club’s relegation reprieve without kicking a ball in anger.

Throwing himself back into Conference Premier football just wasn’t an option for Lorraine.

He said: "Playing in the Conference, in my opinion, is like having a second full-time job.

"The job I do is quite demanding and I’ve got two kids under three, so, at this moment in time, Conference (Premier) football isn’t right for me.

"My life’s running smoothly right now. My wife’s happy and I’m happy with my job. But this was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made in my football career. I wanted to play for Tony (Burman) and Dartford, so it’s a shame.

"I haven’t got a crystal ball, so I don’t know if this decision will prove to be wrong or right. Only time will tell but I wish Tony and the players all the best."
