Alex Woodyard is beginning to find his feet at Dartford after breaking into the first team.

The midfielder signed for the Darts two days before the start of The Skrill Premier season following his release from Southend United.

Woodyard, 20, had to make do with a place on the bench for Dartford’s first four games but he has now started three in a row.

And he was the standout performer in Tuesday’s 3-2 Kent Senior Cup win at Welling, when he scored the second Darts goal direct from a free-kick.

He said: “If you play well, you stay in the team. My target is to play as many games as possible because, in two years, I haven’t played as many games as I’d have liked.

“I was at Southend for four years and they didn’t renew my contract. It’s one of those things that comes to an end.

“I had a few trials (in the summer) but nothing really set in stone. It was just a case of going round a few clubs and seeing where I ended up.

“I spoke to Tony (Burman) and he said to come down. I live in Dartford so this is my local team. They’re a good team and got good facilities, so I couldn’t ask for better, so close to home.”
