A charity football match at Deal’s Charles football ground is being organised in memory of cyclist Daniel Squire to raise cash for Kent Air Ambulance.

Deal players will form one side, named All Stars, who will play against Daniel’s former teammates from River Colts at the match at the St Leonard’s Road ground next Friday, November 29.

The air ambulance charity enabled the 18-year-old’s parents Tracy and Symon to donate Daniel’s heart, kidneys and part of his liver after keeping him alive after the crash on Saturday, September 7.

He died of his injuries the next afternoon after the decision was made to donate his organs if he did not make it.

Daniel’s mum Tracy Squire said an “amazing” anonymous letter from a mother of three who received Daniel’s kidney has increased her need to make the football match a success and keep the money coming in for the charity. The letter is published here in a bid to highlight the importance of our air ambulance and organ donation.

Mrs Squire said: “It is the loveliest letter I have ever seen in my life. This is the whole reason why we are doing a football match, to show people how important the air ambulance is and that it meant we could donate Daniel’s organs.”

Since the London Fancy Box employee’s death two months ago, the family has fundraised for Kent Air Ambulance and campaigned for respect for cyclists on the road.

The drive has been backed by the British Cycling Foundation and Mrs Squire has received a letter of support from Daniel’s hero - four time Iron Man World Champion Chrissie Wellington.

Mrs Squire added: “There will be a lot of Deal Town players. Quite a lot of the players are from Deal who will play against Daniel’s friends from River Colts.

“For me it will be emotional to see his old side play again.

“They were like his best friends.

“We used to take him to football on Sundays. He used to say Sundays were his family day.”

The fundraising match kicks off at 7.30pm next Friday. Everyone who plays will receive a trophy. After the game, there will be drinks and food at the clubhouse, followed by live music by Ian Harris at the Admiral Keppel in Manor Road, Deal.

She added: “We want to raise as much as we can for Kent Air Ambulance.”
