Kim hopes to give people a swish look with a swap

With people finding that money is tight, and perhaps having to forego buying a new dress, jacket or pair of shoes, a Dover woman is coming to their aid – with swishing!

Kim Moorin first found out about swishing – where people pass on to other people clothes, bags and shoes which they no longer use but still have life left in them – when she was surfing the internet.

“It’s really big in London and other cities, but not in smaller towns,” she said.

“It seemed a really good idea, so I thought I would try it here.”

The first swishing session is on Monday at The Cricketers pub in Crabble Avenue, River, starting at 7pm.

People can bring along their unwanted, outgrown, good quality items and swap them for others.

“It just seems perfect timing with everyone feeling the pinch at the moment. And people can have a good night out at the same time,” she said.

Admission is £7.50, which includes a drink.

Born in Dover, Kim went to The Powell Primary School and then Folkestone School for Girls, before studying tourism at South Kent College.

She works for an agency, based at Dover Cruise Terminal, which supplies staff for the tourism industry.

“As well as benefiting the people who swap the clothes, swishing is also very ‘green’ as it helps to reduce the amount of textiles going to landfill due to the culture of cheap, fast fashions,” said Kim.

“The swishing community is growing all the time as consumers continue to stretch their budgets, reduce their carbon footprint and seek out a more fulfilling shopping experience.”

Kim has already planned a second swishing session, also at The Cricketers, on November 13, and she is looking for other venues in Deal and Folkestone.

She also has also a Facebook page.
