Plenty of donations have been given to Deal’s British Red Cross shop after the manager stripped in the window display.

Joan Bull, 53, sat on a chair in the window display on the High Street last Saturday to raise awareness of the need for stock and the naked shelves in the shop.

Mrs Bull was discreetly robed in a sheet as she sat in the window in front of 20 or 30 on-lookers from 11am-noon.

She said: “It was very nerve-racking. I was sat in the chair at five to eleven before they opened the curtain and I was thinking what am I doing here.

“Actually it was a very nice atmosphere and I was able to explain to people that I had no clothes because I needed donations.

“Lots of people collected sacks and then came back that very afternoon to donate. It was a fantastic event.”

Mrs Bull explained that the publicity has really turned the shop around after being so short on donations at what is usually their busiest time after Christmas.

She added: “We’re trying to build up a little bit of a reserve but really stock is going out as soon as it’s coming back in.”

Mrs Bull explained that the British Red Cross will not turn away donations as all are welcome.

She said: “Keep an eye on our window display because you never know what could happen in Deal.

“Thank you so much to the Mercury and also to Deal for being so supportive of us. It’s just lovely, we’re all just thrilled with the donations and the help we’ve received for the charity.”
