Asbestos scare in derelict building
00:00, 21 February 2002
A SPECIAL Kent Fire Brigade unit was called when asbestos was discovered at a fire off Albert Road in Deal. The mystery blaze broke out in a derelict building containing sawdust and wood chippings, near the Deal Builder Center.
Environmental health officers were called and confirmed fears that asbestos on the roof was alight.
An "instant start unit" from Ashford decontaminated fire crews from Deal who were wearing breathing apparatus. There was no threat to nearby homes.
