An architectural adventure around Deal and Walmer can be experienced from the pages of a new book.

Deal & Walmer in 50 Buildings by Paul Morris includes 120 illustrations of the properties featured.

Deal and the adjoining Walmer have long been important towns on the Kent coast.

Walmer was the probable landing point for Julius Caesar’s invasion of Britain in 55 BC and Deal was once the busiest port in England.

Henry VIII’s shoreline castles in both areas are famous but the town and village also boast a wealth of fascinating buildings that tell the story of their maritime, military and industrial past, as well as their development as resorts.

The 96-page paperback explores the history of the towns through a selection of their most interesting buildings, including lesser-known buildings that are tucked away, showing the changes that have taken place over the years.

The book is aimed at those who live in Deal and Walmer or regularly visit the towns.

It is published as the latest title in Amberley’s 50 Buildings series and will be released on August 15.
