Sandwich light-heavyweight Jack Morris says he will be looking to knock his opponent out quickly when he takes to the ring in Bethnal Green next week.

The 26-year-old is expecting to have more than 200 fans cheering him on when he faces Jason Smith from Barnsley at the York Hall next Friday (June 12) on a bill packed with talent including Southern Area light-heavyweight champion JJ Ojuederie and unbeaten Wayne Alwan-Arab and Joe Smyth.

Morris goes into the fight boosted by the first quick win of his career – a three-round demolition of Kenroy Lambert in March – and is convinced the knock-outs will keep coming.

He said: "I put pressure on myself going into my last fight. I wanted the knock-out and told everyone I was going to get it. I’ve always had the power to get the job done quickly and everything came together for me in my last fight.

"I know the fans want to see knock-outs and it helps people in the sport take notice and recognise that you are a good prospect."

Morris is aiming for a fourth straight win at the York Hall and could then make a step-up in class if he is successful.

Manager and promoter Mickey Helliet has told Morris that he could be matched with Michael Monaghan, who has mixed in the best company in a lengthy career and was controversially outpointed by former WBU middleweight champion Gary Lockett.

Morris said: "That would be a big fight. Monaghan is tough and experienced but if I want to go on and win titles, he’s the
sort of opponent I have to
beat.

"But there’s no way I’m looking beyond my next opponent. I have to get him out of the way first – and I’m planning to do it quickly."
