A cake maker in Deal is switching on her Christmas lights and raising money for the British Heart Foundation.
Rebecca Loftus, 34, of Elizabeth Carter Avenue has decided to fill her home and garden with fairy lights, a gigantic snowman, penguin and Father Christmas.
The grand switch on will be this Saturday and will see children from the Deal Town Rangers Football Club's under 7s, 8s, and 9s switching on the lights.
There will be a raffle at £1 a ticket, the chance to see Father Christmas for £1.50 and mince pies can be purchased for 50p.
All the money raised will go to the British Heart Foundation.
Gill Castle the British Heart Foundation representative for east Kent has been liaising with Mrs Loftus to ensure that all the money raised will stay local to help people close to home.
Mrs Loftus who runs her own business Once Upon a Layer Cake, said: “We have seen the work of the BHF at first hand and are really pleased to be supporting the charity with our lights. Everyone is welcome to the grand switching on of the lights and we hope to receive lots of donations from a lovely evening including presents for the children on the night.”
Mrs Loftus wanted to raise money for the cause after her husband Dean’s brother-in-law suffered a heart attack.
Tony Shailer, commercial director of Deal Town Football also suffered a heart attack in February of this year and wanted to get the team involved.
He said: “We all know someone affected by heart disease so it is brilliant that Becky and her family have chosen the charity to benefit from kind contributions made by the public when viewing this fantastic display.”
Miss Loftus added: "We want to say thank you to all the people who have helped, like electrical company Skinners, and electricians Jacob Townend and Phil Hartley who rigged up the electrics."
The switch on will be at 9 Elizabeth Carter Avenue on Saturday at 6.30pm.
Parking is limited so please come on foot where possible.
