Cash Mob plans shop raid to boost economy in Deal
00:01, 18 May 2013
A mother who loves to shop is going into Deal mob-handed today – with the aim of boosting the local economy.
Rosemary Smith, 34, has organised the town's first Cash Mob to gather together and storm an independent shop – with every person in the mob spending £5 inside.
She said: "The way it works is a local independent shop on the High Street gets nominated. I pull a name out of a hat and we all go in together and spend five pounds.
It gives that shop a boost."
Miss Smith, of Thornbridge Road, got the idea from a friend involved in the We Will Gather organisation that set up the cash mobs idea.
"I hope enough people turn up to make a difference to one of the shops on the High Street and that people enjoy themselves," she said.
"It's a bit of fun and hopefully people will realise there are more shops on the High Street than they thought."
Anyone wishing to take part in the Cash Mob can meet at the Landmark Centre, Deal, at 1pm today with £5.
