The family of cyclist Daniel Squire are gearing up for three charity events in his memory – a visit to Deal by ex-Chelsea legend Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris, a fancy dress bike ride and a Regatta week fundraiser.
The football ace has pledged his time to help dad Symon, mum Tracy and sister Hayley raise cash for Kent Air Ambulance by coming to Deal Town Football Club on Good Friday, April 18.
Mr Squire said: “There should be quite a reasonable amount going on.”
They hope the former player will give a talk, sign autographs, and auction memorabilia, as well as bring a top comedian to make the night even more memorable.
Daniel was a keen fan of Chelsea Football Club like his dad and sister Hayley.
His mum Tracy earlier told the Mercury: “He would be so excited that Chopper Harris is coming.”
The event will also see the unveiling of the Daniel Squire Memorial Trophy which will be handed to the winners of the yearly fixture between his youth team mates from River Colts and friends, who make up the Deal All Stars.
Before the tragic accident on the A258 at Ringwould, Daniel and his father were very close and shared a love of triathlon, especially cycling.
To pay tribute to him, his fellow training friends at Deal Tri have organised a fancy dress time-trial fundraiser at Fowlmead Country Park on Saturday, April 12.
It is open to anyone to enter as well as clubs who have already shown an interest in getting involved.
“They have got a run as well, with kids running around the track, and someone will be selling fridge magnets for £1 to keep the money coming in for the air ambulance,” added Mr Squire.
And in July, their friend Ross Austin will be raising cash in Daniel’s memory by running the Dinosaur 10k, taking part in the 1mile swim and hopping onboard for the raft race.
