Scores of firefighters from across the district tackled a blaze after a derelict housing block was set alight in Deal.
Arson is believed to be the cause of the fire at Dunstan House, a former district council sheltered housing block inCollege Road.
Police are still investigating and are appealing for witnesses.
The alarm was raised after fire broke out just before 8pm on Sunday.
One resident, who lives across the road from the dilapidated building, said: "We noticed it just as we were going to bed. There were lots of fire engines, one with a turntable.
Six pumps attended, including Deal and Dover plus retained crews from both stations, Sandwich, Eastry, St Margaret’s and an aerial appliance from Thanet."Three pumps were initially called," said Mr Evans.
Police spokesman Jon Green said officers have not been able to confirm it is arson but firefighters believe it is the cause.
They will continue their investigations and are appealing for witnesses to call police on 01622 690690.
