Deal Rowing Club’s junior and senior fours rounded off their season in style with title wins at the weekend's South Coast Championships in Folkestone.

Deal’s day started brightly in the ladies’ open senior fours with second place for Jane Shorter, Sharon Mullaney, Sam Card, Jo Johnston and cox Toby Shorter.

The senior four of Jason Morgan, Kirk Bell, Tom Glynn, James Morgan and cox Aston Hibbert finished third in the Bideford Bowl race behind Herne Bay and BTC Southampton.

Men’s junior four Chris Dale, Damien Cook, Matthew Holmes, Lloyd Payne and cox Hibbert had an unfavourable draw on the outside of the course in rough conditions.

They started the race maintaining contact with the inside crew from Herne.

The Deal crew were down a boat length to Herne Bay at 100 metres but they caught their rivals and then drew away from to win the Championship by a commanding four-boat length.

The junior/senior four of Stephen Holmes, Ollie Hook, Devon Whiteman, Charlie Creed and cox Shorter were drawn in the middle with the outside crew from Coalporters their main rivals.

Coalporters took an early lead which changed hands through to the finishing line, where Deal were declared winners by half a canvas.
