A green group in Deal has organised a gathering in solidarity with Paris after the Charlie Hebdo killings.

Deal With It will be hosting an informal gathering at Deal Pier tomorrow (Sunday) at 2pm, which will last for around 45 minutes.

This will also coincide with Paris' own unity rally which will be held in the French city tomorrow afternoon.

Stephen Wakeford, chairman of Deal With it said: "A lot of people have been affected by what's happened in Paris and we wanted to give people an oppotunity to mark it at the same time.

"Just talking to people in the high street this morning, people are moved by what's happened there and want to express their support for the victims and for what people in Paris are going through."

This comes after a dramatic few days in France, when two gunman stormed the building of a satirical magazine and shot dead 10 journalists and two policemen.

Later, the suspects were found on the N2 motorway and were involved in a shoot out with police. They took refuge in a printing works, taking a hostage, who was later freed and the two suspects were shot dead.

Elsewhere in France, in a linked incident, hostages were also held in a Jewish supermarket with four of them killed.

It is believed the massacre was carried out by Islamist extremists and the magazine had come under fire before in 2011 when it published pictures of the prophet Muhammad.

MP for Deal and Dover Charlie Elphicke has also shown his support for victims in France by tweeting a picture of himself holding a sign saying Je Suis Charlie.
