A suspected acid attack on a 50-year-old donkey in Tilmanstone has shocked the community.
It happened on Saturday and the donkey was put down on the advice of vets later that day.
Investigations are now under way to find the attacker and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
Janet Kershaw, from the Plough and Harrow in Tilmanstone, posted a status on Facebook about the vicious attack, which has since been taken down.
The post sparked outrage among residents, one of which, Jack Jones, set up a Crowdfunding page to raise money for the owners.
He said: "On Saturday, September 19, somebody poured acid on one of the beautiful donkeys in Tilmanstone. The poor donkey was 50 years old. It was in so much pain it had to be put down the next day.
"Many people are devastated, including my five-year-old daughter, who adored him.
"We are trying to raise a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the criminal who committed this disgusting act. Please give what you can, even £1 would help."
So far £250 has been pledged, which exceeds the £200 target.
The RSPCA has confirmed officers were called to a donkey on Saturday.
A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "We were called to help a donkey in Tilmanstone near Dover on Saturday afternoon. Sadly the donkey was in very poor condition and was put to sleep on veterinary advice with the owner’s consent.
"An investigation is being carried out to try and establish the cause of the donkey’s condition. Anyone with information can contact the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 1238018."
Kent Police said they have no incident of this nature on their log.
